The Helpful And The Helpless | Revival Day 2 |
Zech. 46 “Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.”
This verse applies to all of God’s work and plans. It must be understood that military might, political power or human strength cannot accomplish God’s purposes. It is the Holy Spirit that will enable the believer to do God’s work.
In the book of Judges 633-40 we see how the Holy Spirit enabled Gideon to be a champion. “Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the children of the east were gathered together, and went over, and pitched in the valley of Jezreel. 34 But the Spirit of the LORD came upon Gideon, and he blew a trumpet; and Abiezer was gathered after him. 35 And he sent messengers throughout all Manasseh; who also was gathered after him: and he sent messengers unto Asher, and unto Zebulun, and unto Naphtali; and they came up to meet them. 36 And Gideon said unto God, If thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said, 37 Behold, I will put a fleece of wool in the floor; and if the dew be on the fleece only, and it be dry upon all the earth beside, then shall I know that thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said. 38 And it was so: for he rose up early on the morrow, and thrust the fleece together, and wringed the dew out of the fleece, a bowl full of water. 39 And Gideon said unto God, Let not thine anger be hot against me, and I will speak but this once: let me prove, I pray thee, but this once with the fleece; let it now be dry only upon the fleece, and upon all the ground let there be dew. 40 And God did so that night: for it was dry upon the fleece only, and there was dew on all the ground.”
- Jesus started his earthly ministry in the power of the Holy Spirit Lk. 41,18 “And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised”
- The Church was empowered to begin to witness when Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to fill His follower on the Pentecost day 18 “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
Acts 21-4 “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance”
- Only as the Holy Spirit commands and continues to guide our lives will we accomplish God’s plan for us
- Therefore as stated in Col. 316 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord”
- Do not forget that our Lord is consuming fire Heb. 1229 “For our God is a consuming fire.”
- Do not also forget that Jesus Christ is the only righteous man. 1Jn. 21 “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous”
- Do not also ignore the fact that Jesus Christ is the righteousness of the believer 1Cor. 130 “But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption”
- And it is by the Spirit that the believer can claim all the important promises made by Jesus Christ such as Ps. 1253 “3 For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous;lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity.”
Deut. 281-13 “And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:”
Furthermore, remember always what the Holy Spirit truly is:
- He is the Spirit of truth 1417 “Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.”
- Spirit of adoption Rom. 815 “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.”
- Spirit of God. Rom. 89 “But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his
- Spirit of Glory 1Pet 414 “If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.”
- Spirit of Grace Heb. 1029 “Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace”
- Spirit of Promise Eph. 118 “The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints”
- Spirit of Wisdom Eph. 117 “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him”
- The Good Spirit Neh. 920 “Thou gavest also thy good spirit to instruct them, and withheldest not thy manna from their mouth, and gavest them water for their thirst”
- Spirit of the Lord. Lk. 418 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised”
- Holy Ghost Acts 15 “For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.”
- Comforter Jn. 1416 “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever ”
